A Tasty Evening at Shree Mithai, Chetpet – My Snack Time Story
Shopping and snacks – they make a perfect pair, don’t they? After a busy shopping day, all I wanted was to treat myself to some tasty snacks. And when it comes to snacks in Chennai, my heart always thinks of Shree Mithai in Chetpet. It’s like my comfort spot whenever I crave yummy North Indian snacks and sweets.
Shree Mithai is not just a shop, it is a feeling of happiness for all food lovers, especially if you love chaats, sandwiches, and sweets. It is a self-service place, so you order, collect your food, and find a table to enjoy it. The best part is that the prices are pocket-friendly, and the taste is always fantastic.
Why I Love Shree Mithai
There are many snack spots in Chennai, but Shree Mithai has my heart because of its pure North Indian flavours. The snacks, the sweets, even the drinks – everything feels like a trip to Delhi or Mumbai. The shop is always crowded, which means the food is freshly made throughout the day. They also use pure ghee for their sweets, which makes it extra special.
Whenever I visit, I end up ordering too much because everything looks too tempting. But honestly, I never regret it because every item I taste here is worth every bite.
My Food Order – A Feast of Snacks
On this visit, I ordered Dhokla, Peri Peri French Fries, Dahi Poori, and a Mushroom Grilled Sandwich. This was my perfect evening snacks platter, and each dish gave me a burst of flavours.
Dhokla – Soft and Spongy Goodness
My snack journey started with Dhokla – a simple dish that always wins my heart. Shree Mithai’s Dhokla was soft like a cloud and had the perfect balance of sweet and tangy taste. Each bite was spongy and moist, soaking up the green chutney beautifully. The mustard seeds and curry leaves tempering added a lovely crunch, and the grated coconut garnish gave it a nice South Indian touch.
I could easily eat a whole plate of these Dhoklas all by myself, but I had more snacks waiting, so I controlled myself (a little).
Peri Peri French Fries – Spicy and Crispy
Next came the Peri Peri French Fries, which looked absolutely tempting with their bright orange seasoning. I took the first fry and crunch! – it was crispy outside and soft inside, just the way I like. The Peri Peri masala was spicy, tangy, and had that zing which made me keep reaching for more.
Even though I went to Shree Mithai mainly for Indian snacks, I must say these fries were a total surprise hit. If you love spicy snacks, this is a must-try here.
Dahi Poori – Explosion of Flavours
Dahi Poori is something I can never resist. And at Shree Mithai, it’s always a showstopper. The puffed pooris were filled with boiled potatoes, chana, and sweet chutney. On top, there was a generous amount of chilled curd, sprinkled with spicy masala, chopped coriander, and sev.
The first bite was like a fireworks show in my mouth – sweet, spicy, tangy, and creamy all at once. The cold curd and crunchy poori combination felt so refreshing, especially after those spicy fries. I love how Shree Mithai keeps the flavours so authentic, making me feel like I’m eating at a famous chaat corner in Delhi.
Mushroom Grilled Sandwich – Cheesy Delight
Next on my plate was the Mushroom Grilled Sandwich. This sandwich was stuffed with juicy mushrooms, onions, capsicum, and lots of cheese. The bread was buttery and crispy, grilled to golden perfection.
What I liked the most was the perfect balance – the mushrooms were well-seasoned, and the cheese wasn’t overpowering. Each bite had that perfect crunch followed by a creamy filling. It was hearty, filling, and so satisfying. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves grilled sandwiches.
Self Service – Simple and Fast
One unique thing about Shree Mithai is that it’s all self-service. After placing the order at the counter, you get a token number. Once your number is called, you collect the food yourself. This system works well because the staff is quick, and the crowd moves fast.
Even though it’s a busy place, I never felt like I had to wait too long. Plus, watching the live counters where they make chaat and sandwiches is fun. You can see your food being made fresh right in front of you.
Sweets Section – Pure Ghee Magic
No visit to Shree Mithai is complete without exploring the sweets section. All their sweets are made with pure ghee, giving them a rich aroma and taste. From Gulab Jamun to Kaju Katli to Rasgulla, the choices are endless.
But my all-time favourite is their Chilled Badam Gheer. This drink is heaven in a glass – thick, creamy, chilled milk with the flavour of badam (almonds), kesar (saffron), and lots of shredded almonds floating on top. It’s like dessert and drink combined. The taste is so rich and refreshing, and it always leaves me smiling with satisfaction.
Affordable Prices – Big Taste, Small Bill
Another reason I love Shree Mithai is because everything is reasonably priced. Whether you are a college student looking for a quick bite or a family enjoying a weekend snack outing, this place fits every budget. The quality and portion sizes make it a great value for money spot.
The Vibe – Lively and Fun
The atmosphere at Shree Mithai is always lively. The place is filled with families, friends, and office groups, all chatting, eating, and enjoying their food. It feels like a happy food carnival where everyone is excited about their plate.
I love how the place feels simple yet welcoming, with clean tables and a friendly crowd. Even if you come alone, you never feel out of place here.
